First Day School

1844 Peaceable Kingdom oil on canvas 61 x 31.2 cm Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art CenterAll children join in Silent Worship from 10:00am-10:15am.  Then we proceed to our classroom area and break up into two groups:  younger students from 5-9 years old, and older students aged 10 and above.  Our lessons are structured so that children can attend as schedules permit and new children can join at any time. Lessons are completed around the end of Meeting for Worship and the children usually give a short message during introductions. In past years we learned about:

  • Quaker Testimonies

  • Margaret Fell and Elizabeth Fry

  • Nurturing through Nature

  • What it means to be Quaker

First Day School begins the third Sunday in September and continues through the end of May.  It is suspended during the summer months.
